“Sex to me was a mixture of desire and pain, but never pleasure. Since my first intercourse, I have experienced muscle tension and excruciating pain in the pelvic region. After almost a year of urogynecological physiotherapy, I learned to relax the area physically and I was able to experience my first full sexual penetration. Though, I was still in pain and the physiotherapist told me it would be like that for the rest of my life. For me, sex was a way of giving pleasure to another being, but not receiving it. Years passed and I still experienced pain and no pleasure during penetration. Sometimes the pelvic region would tighten again, preventing full penetration. I spoke with Kirsten about this issue. First, she brought me the following revelation (which no doctor or physical therapist ever told me): our bodies were made to experience pleasure. And the second (and very potent for me): sex is a sacred act, and it can even be a profound spiritual surrender. It wasn’t my mind but my body that recognized the truths behind these revelations. For the first time, I started to feel understood on a deeper level. Why didn’t I allow myself to feel pleasure? Why didn’t I give myself fully to these sensations? After the first interview, I think we had two hypnotherapy sessions, where we basically traced my patterns of fear and internal repression during childhood and adolescence, in relation to body, sex and love. It was extremely liberalising. I could feel the sexual energy inside me being stirred again.
Emotionally, my energy was frozen. The hypnotherapy sessions allowed this energy to be released and to flow again. What happened after that was amazing! I no longer felt pain during penetration. I was able to relax in my own body and feel deserving of this overwhelming pleasure. Sex became, in fact, something I craved and orgasm become such a sublime form of surrender to the present, to my body and to myself.”
